Description
Pasture-Raised Stew Hen
Our Pasture-Raised Stew Hens are made for slow cooking, soup pots, and rich homemade broth. These birds are best prepared low and slow, where time transforms them into deeply flavorful, nourishing meals.
Stew hens are not the same as tender young roasting chickens. They have more developed flavor and firmer meat, making them ideal for traditional chicken soup, chicken and dumplings, pot pie filling, broth, stock, and slow-simmered comfort food.

Cooking Instructions
For best results, cook low and slow. Place the stew hen in a stockpot, slow cooker, or Instant Pot with water, vegetables, herbs, and salt.
Simmer gently until the meat is tender and the broth is rich. Remove the meat from the bones and use it in soups, casseroles, pot pies, or chicken salad. Save the broth for future meals.
Frequently Asked Question
Can I roast a stew hen like a regular chicken?
We don’t recommend it. Stew hens are best cooked slowly with moisture so the meat becomes tender and flavorful.
